MERCEDES AMG HIGH PERFORMANCE POWERTRAINS

Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains are based in Brixworth, Northamptonshire where our highly talented and ambitious team of over 1000 people are responsible for the design, manufacture, testing and racing of Formula 1 power units enjoying enormous success with our partner team Mercedes-AMG F1 and Customer Teams. Additionally, we have our pioneering Advanced Technologies Team who transfer F1 technologies and know-how into high performance automotive projects and products such as the Mercedes-AMG ONE and the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.


The roots of our business stretch back to 1984 and the foundation of Ilmor Engineering. Since 1995 our team based in Brixworth Northamptonshire have been responsible for the design and development of every single Formula One engine to wear the Mercedes-Benz badge. Renamed Mercedes-Ilmor Ltd in 2002, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG in 2005, operating under the name of Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines – later switching to High Performance Powertrains.

2002

Renamed Mercedes-Ilmor Ltd.

2005

Became a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-AG.

2012

Renamed Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, recognising the wider scope of engineering activity and the contribution to the Mercedes Performance Brands.

Our goal is to win every competition entered. This goal is underpinned by the values we hold dear, Pioneering Spirit, Technical Excellence and Speed & Flexibility.

In the new, Hybrid F1 era, Mercedes-Benz V6 power units have powered the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team to eight consecutive Constructors’ titles (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021) and seven consecutive Drivers’ Championships (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020).

In Formula E we are proud of our successes in two consecutive seasons, winning both the Driver’s Championships and Constructors’ titles in seasons seven and eight.

We are incredibly proud to have been awarded the prestigious Dewar Trophy three times for Technical Excellence and Achievement in the Automotive Industry. 2009 – F1 Kinetic Energy Recovery System, 2014 – the development of our Formula One world championship winning Mercedes-Benz PU106A Hybrid power unit, and most recently in 2022 – in recognition for the successful implementation of our Formula One powertrain in the road-legal Mercedes-AMG ONE hyper car.

OUR TEAM

Since entering Formula One in 1994 our Northamptonshire based team have won 205 races, 10 World Drivers Championships and 11 World Constructors Championships. Setting the benchmark for success, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships from 2014 to 2021 with our works team Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS.

Our Facility

Our impressive, purpose-built Technology Centre, which now covers 20 acres of land, is home to over 1000 talented people. With the construction of our new Future Development Centre which is due to be completed in September 2024, our site will be made up of 5 main buildings (Mercedes-Benz Technology Centres 1 & 2, our Hybrid Technology Centre, and a fully equipped People Performance Centre (PPC), providing onsite gym and training facilities.

Our award winning Pitstop Restaurant is the home of nutrition here at HPP. Our Performance Chef’s work closely with Nutrition Therapists to ensure we create the most nutritious options for our staff all year round.
