Sustainability
“As a team of engineers and problem solvers, the Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains Team is always challenging itself to think about how we can embed sustainability in everything we do – from our on-site initiatives at Brixworth to our broader engineering activity including the development of the 2026 power unit and specific R&D projects for Mercedes-Benz AG”

Sustainability
Our Commitment
Sustainability is an integral part of the day to day operations at HPP. It is our ambition to operate at the most competitive level whilst actively reducing our environmental impact, from the waste we produce to the energy required to power our plant and equipment.
Mercedes-Benz AG are committed to a reduction in their environmental impact and HPP’s long term strategy has been developed in line with Ambition2039. Ambition2039 outlines the Mercedes-Benz sustainability targets to 2039 with a key commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2039. HPP will play a key part in contributing to the achievement of these targets.
All of our staff have the opportunity and the responsibility to understand how HPP can operate in a more sustainable way to support HPP on our journey to meet our targets.
This is why we empower everyone at HPP to lead the way in reducing our impact in day to day operations. From looking at operational process improvements, to reducing resource consumption, to identifying new and innovative technologies and new ways of working.
Our Success Stories
BIODIVERSITY
To promote a thriving ecosystem we have:
- Installed a green roof and living wall to our People Performance Centre (PPC) designed to provide habitats for birds, bees, butterflies & insects
- Created an array of animal habitats with 40 bird boxes, eight insect huts and six hedgehog hotels
- Designed an attenuation pond which not only provides resilience against adverse weather but also creates a food and water source for wildlife
- Implemented a composting system for gardening waste to help improve our soil quality.
Our Success Stories
RENEWABLE ENERGY
We have embedded sustainability measures across our Brixworth Site including both environmental benefits and employee wellbeing.
Renewable energy generation: As with everything we do here at HPP, ensuring that we as a business stay at the forefront of technology is key to our continued success. With this in mind the we have invested in onsite renewable energy generation on a variety of scales to reduce our reliance on the national grid.
- Across the roofs of our Brixworth Site we have installed over 3,500 solar photovoltaic panels to date
- We are planning to introduce two solar car ports which will deliver an estimated two GWH renewable energy annually
- Ten mini wind turbines were installed in late 2023
- All imported electricity is 100% renewable electricity, backed by renewable energy guarantee of origin certificates (REGOs).
Our Success Stories
EMPLOYEE LIFT SHARING
- In 2024 we launched an employee lift sharing scheme to help staff find colleagues to share their commute to work with. This not only helps reduce the environmental impact of our commute but also provides the opportunity to meet colleagues from across the business and forge new relationships.
- Underpinning all our activities is a commitment to continuous improvement – Since 2013 we have held two globally recognised certifications, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 for our environmental management and energy management systems.
- In 2021 we also achieved FIA 3*, the highest level of environmental sustainability recognition from the sport’s governing body.
